STN DISPLAY An stn display has improved viewing angles and contrast at high multiplex rates. stn display is the newer technology and offers higher contrast and wider viewing angle than the TN fluid. The natural color for a TN display is gray with dark gray pixels but because of an optical effect an stn display has a yellow background with dark blue pixels. The background color in an stn display can be made to appear gray with the addition of a filter. The color shift of an stn display can be completely compensated for by the addition of a special filter making the display appear black and white. This display type is called FSTN for Filtered STN. This means that, for the first time, developers of latest-generation consumer products can benefit from the cost advantages of colour "stn display" technology without compromising on image quality. Moving images and colour stn display technology are not normally associated with each other. What are Dual Scan stn displays? This is simply taking currently made color stn displays and applying some previously developed technology. The dual scan stn display still suffers from the ghosting and artifact problems inherent in all slow stn displays. Applications include stn displays, cholesteric displays, optically active polmers, and reflective colour reflective colour polarizers. How is an stn display effected, when higher than the rated current is applied through the CCFL backlight tube? The response time (of stn displays significantly) is slowed, contrast is affected. One simple solution would be to have a folding or rolling stn display. Current technology uses glass and metal to form the various layers and circuitry, but this limitation is due to be dispensed with by using plastics. Approaches using holography are also being investigated as are other methods of using standard stn display technology, including several flat-screen approaches that simulate stereoscopic displays by using several images for each angle. High information colour liquid crystal stn displays have always been a target for the display industry, but to do this very many pixels must be addressed. stn displays struggle to achieve this. These supertwisted nematic stn displays achieve their high twist by using a substrate plate configuration. is research addressed a down-side of the stn display configuration. stn displays work quite well over a range of temperatures, with wide viewing angle and the multiplexing capability required for high-quality images. The stn display has a twist angle of 180 degrees and the SBE display incorporates a twist angle of 270 degrees compared with 90 degrees for the TN display. The maximal optical performance of stn displays can be maintained up to very high temperatures. This adds a retardation film to the stn display that compensates for the color added by the birefringence effect. These stn displays are also called passive matrix to distinguish them from a related LCD technology called TFT or active matrix. How many colors can be produced by a color stn display? The current generation of mobile phones use monochrome passive matrix stn displays and the newer prototype phones are starting to use colour active matrix LCDs. Improves stn display by dividing the screen into two halves and scanning each half simultaneously, doubling the number of lines refreshed. In the meantime, work continued on passive matrix displays, with new techniques, such as dual-scanning of stn displays providing sufficient improvements to the basic design to persuade researchers that it was worth persevering with the cheaper technology. Dual-scanning portions the stn display into an upper and lower half with each section driven by independent column drivers. Home |
